LAUTECH EMBARK ON WARNING STRIKE, DISRUPTING TEST AND ON GOING LECTURES.

The Non-academic Staff Union of Ladokite Akintola University of Technology has embarked on a 3-day warning strike, consequently putting a hold on the ongoing 100L tests and lecture some departments.

The Dean of Students’ Affairs Dr. Sunday Adewale confirmed the strike to the Union of Campus Journalists in a phone interview Wednesday morning.

Most administrative buildings, including the Students’ Affairs building, Senate building, ICT centers, and Laboratories, were on lock and keys, signalling the severity of the strike.

100L students who had already arrived at their test venues were left stranded as they could not get access into the halls. The students soon got agitated and erupted into a full blown protest, with students chanting “we no gree o, we no gree. After 150, we no go gree.”

According to reporters with the Union of Campus Journalists, the protest grew violent leading to the arrest, and subsequent release, of eight 100L students. A student was also reported to have fainted in the course of the struggle.

However, the DSA said concerning the 100L tests that “the university management is on top of the situation,” and that “things are being put in place to ensure the tests continue tomorrow.”
